When will my Corebridge Financial life insurance policy be active?

Corebridge Financial determines your policy effective date, or the date that you officially have life insurance coverage, as the date you sign all of your policy documents and submit your first premium payment.

How do I create an online account with Corebridge Financial?

While completing the delivery requirements, you should have been able to create an account on Corebridge Financial’s page (formerly AIG Life & Retirement). If you skipped this process, follow these steps on their online customer service portal. You’ll be prompted to verify your identify with the following information:

  • Policy number

  • Policyowner’s last name

  • Date of birth

  • ZIP code

  • Email

  • Phone number

Need help registering? Call 800-888-2452.

What changes can I make on Corebridge Financial’s online portal?

After creating your account, you can make the following changes online:

  • View policy details

  • Obtain a copy of the full policy

  • Make a payment

  • Enroll in EFT

  • Remove EFT and change to direct billing

  • Update EFT

  • Change your contact details, such as your address, phone number, or email

  • Change your beneficiary

  • Obtain change forms

How often do I make premium payments?

You can make premium payments monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually.

If you’re paying monthly, setting up automatic payments from a checking or savings account is required. Be sure to provide your banking information for your first premium and recurring payments.

If you’re paying premiums annually, semi-annually, or quarterly, automatic payments aren’t required, but policies paid via direct billing have a significantly higher lapse rate due to frequency of missed payments.

What payment methods can I use?

Credit card payments can only be processed for the first payment. If you elected to pay on a monthly basis, please keep in mind you’ll have to provide recurring banking information.

If you want to pay via credit card, you can do so through Corebridge Financial’s online portal. This option isn’t available in AK, MD, NJ, NY, or NC.

Why haven’t I seen a payment draft yet?

If you made your initial payment via EFT, you may not see the premium drafted yet because banks don’t always process drafts right away.

My age is wrong on my policy. How do I fix this?

In insurance years, your age changes six months prior to your actual birthday. Your age is determined by your nearest birthday. For example, someone with a birthday in January has an age change every July. Most of the time, no correction is needed, but if you have questions, reach out to the Policygenius team.

I want to make some changes to my beneficiaries. How do I do that?

In order to change or add additional beneficiaries to your policy, you will have to:

  • Provide your new beneficiary’s full name, date of birth, and their relationship to you

  • Specify whether they will be added as a primary or contingent beneficiary

Make sure that the percentage of your death benefit that you choose to designate for each beneficiary adds up to 100%. For example, let’s say you want each of your four children to get an equal payment when you die. You would need to assign 25% of your policy’s death benefit to each child.

You can also activate your policy first and change your beneficiaries later on to make sure there’s no delay to your coverage.

Theres some incorrect information on my initial application that I need to update. How do I fix this?

You can usually make some small changes to your policy, like your employer’s address, your address, your occupation, and other information at any time.

However, certain changes will require that your policy be reissued, like if you disclose information showing that your health has changed significantly. This might include doctor’s visits you forgot to let your insurance company know about when you applied for coverage.

I want to look into a whole life or permanent life policy in the future. Can I convert my term policy to a permanent policy?

Absolutely — you can convert your term policy into a permanent life policy prior to age 70. If you’re interested in converting your policy, give us a call at 800-741-7973 or schedule a meeting online.

Can I cancel my Corebridge Financial policy?

Yes, you can cancel your policy at any time during the term period without paying a cancellation fee by reaching out to Corebridge Financial directly.

How does my beneficiary file a claim for a death benefit?

Your beneficiary can file a death benefit claim online. You can learn more about the process with our guide to filing a life insurance claim.

Can I decrease coverage once my policy has been activated?

Yes, you can decrease your policy coverage amount after the third policy year by reaching out to Corebridge Financial directly. You must maintain a minimum face value of $100,000.

What happens if my Corebridge Financial term life insurance policy lapses?

If your policy lapses, you’ll lose your life insurance coverage. A lapse in life insurance coverage may happen if you don’t pay your premium before the end of your insurance company’s grace period. Your beneficiaries won’t receive a death benefit payment if your policy lapses and you die — no matter how long you’ve had the policy or how much you’ve paid in premiums.

What is Corebridge Financial's grace period?

Corebridge Financial's grace period is 31 days in all states but California, which has a grace period of 60 days. The grace period is the length of time that your policy stays in force after a missed payment.

During the grace period, you remain fully covered by your policy, so your beneficiaries would still receive a death benefit if you died during this time. To keep your coverage you’ll need to pay your missed premium (as well as any late fees) before the grace period ends.

How do I reinstate my lapsed Corebridge Financial policy?

If you still haven’t paid your premiums by the time your insurance carrier’s grace period ends, your policy has officially lapsed and you no longer have life insurance coverage. At this point, you’ll have to contact your insurer to reinstate your policy.

Depending on your insurer, how long your policy has been lapsed, and whether you had any red flags in your medical history when you first applied for life insurance, reinstatement might also require new underwriting.

Some companies won’t require new underwriting if the policy has been inactive for less than six months; others may require only a limited underwriting process.
