Cheapest home insurance rates if you have poor credit

Insurance companies use your credit score as a factor in determining your premium, with lower scores resulting in higher rates. While they don’t look into your whole credit report, they will use your payment and credit history as an indicator of whether you're likely to file claims or pay your bills on time.

Not all insurers rely on credit scores, however, so it’s still possible to get an affordable rate if you have a low credit score.

With an average rate of $1,510 per year, Frankenmuth Insurance has the cheapest home insurance rates in Michigan for a homeowner with poor credit.

Cheapest home insurance rates if you have an older home

The median age of homes in Michigan is 49 years old, according to an analysis of U.S. census data by House Method. And like everything else, the age of your home plays a role in how much you pay for home insurance in Michigan.

Older and historic homes are usually more expensive to insure than newer homes. This is because they're more prone to structural damage than new homes. Older homes are also often constructed out of materials and with features that would be expensive to replace if they were damaged.
